Privacy Policy

      Short version: Live Pulse is anonymous by design. We do not create accounts, store your name, or link your data to you personally. Your location is shared in real-time while you are connected, and deleted the moment you disconnect.
    

1. Who we are

Live Pulse is a real-time social map application. Users appear as anonymous dots on a shared globe, sharing their location and optionally their camera feed with nearby users. There is no company registration at this time; the service is operated independently.

2. What data we collect

We collect only the minimum data necessary to operate the service:

Display name — a name you choose yourself. It is not verified and does not have to be your real name.
GPS location — your real-time coordinates, collected via your device's browser location API. This is shared with other connected users while you are active.
Status & color — the activity status and color you pick when connecting.
Camera and microphone — only if you explicitly start a live video feed or use push-to-talk. Video and audio are transmitted peer-to-peer (WebRTC) and are never recorded or stored by our servers.
Connection metadata — a temporary anonymous session ID assigned for the duration of your session. It is discarded when you disconnect.

We do not collect: email address, phone number, IP address logs, device identifiers, or any information that identifies you outside the app.

3. How we use your data

To display your dot on the shared map for other connected users.
To enable real-time camera feeds and voice between users who both consent.
To show your chosen name and status in user popups.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating the live map.

4. Data sharing

Your location, name, and status are visible to other users currently connected to Live Pulse — that is the core purpose of the app. By connecting, you consent to this visibility.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.

WebRTC video and audio streams are sent directly between users' devices (peer-to-peer). Our servers act only as a signalling relay and do not have access to the content of those streams.

5. Data retention

Your location and session data exist only while you are connected. When you disconnect or close the app, all data associated with your session is immediately deleted from our servers.

Your chosen display name and color are saved in your browser's local storage on your device only, so the app remembers them next time. You can clear this at any time via your browser settings.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

Right to access — You can ask what data we hold about you.
Right to erasure — Since we hold no persistent data, disconnecting effectively erases all server-side data immediately.
Right to object — You can stop sharing your data at any time by disconnecting.
Right to data portability — We hold no stored personal data to export.
Right to lodge a complaint — You may contact the Dutch data protection authority: Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

The legal basis for processing your location and camera data is your explicit consent, given when you choose to connect and enable those features.

7. Cookies & local storage

We do not use tracking cookies or analytics cookies. We use browser local storage solely to remember your display name, chosen color, and whether you have accepted the community rules — all stored on your device only.

8. Children

Live Pulse is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has connected, please contact us.

9. Security

All connections to Live Pulse use HTTPS/TLS encryption. WebRTC streams are encrypted end-to-end between peers. We do not store sensitive personal data on our servers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as the service evolves. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
